| 1335699 | 2013-04-06 23:23:00 | Hi guys. Am trying to set up a network printer and not getting nowhere. I am using Xp Home, on desktop and XP Pro on my laptop. I have setup Printer sharing, on desktop and called it Canon. Tried searching on laptop and nothing seems to work, I do. Right click on My Printer and File add Printer. A network printer, or a printer attached to another printer. Next, tried Browser for a printer Next and brings up Microsoft Windows Network, MSHOME Workgroup and Technocolor. None of these work, so tried Connect to a printer (or browser for a printer. Each top in comes up with, Windows can not connect to the printer. :badpc: :mad: Can someone please help, such a pain having to copy to a memory stick, etc. Thank you, Ian |

| 1335700 | 2013-04-07 00:21:00 | Sounds like the same Problem I have to sort out at a church I'm doing some work for ( guess gods not helping this time - sorry couldn't resist :) ). First thing to try -- on the laptop, see if it can ping the Desktop's IP address, you may have to set the desktop to a static IP. Then on the desktop, share a folder, see if the laptop can then see the folders OK or not. ( has to be able to see any other shares to see a networked printer) What you may have to do is install the software for the canon on the Laptop, if it has the option to connect to a Networked Computer use that. In the past I have had to actually connect the printer to the device first Via USB ( laptop in your case) install it, then put the printer back where its actually meant to be. Then change the port options to the IP address of the Desktop shared printer. The last option is what I'm going to have to do at the church, but both the printer a Business class, BIG as a truck Kyocera , and the desktop are not movable, so have to get a connection somehow 15 Mtrs away :( |

I am, unashamedly a Christian, so believing , "In God faviour" I prayer for Him to revel, what is hidden. I them looked into, My Network, MSHOME and I could see my Canon MP190. So when back to Printers, Install Printer and was able to locate my MP190. Set as default and was able to print a document... So believe what you want to believe, but I have been trying to set up since I got me lappy in December. After reading, what you said, Prayed and God answers prayer. So thank you for putting me on the correct track. Ian. |

This is what helped, my network places, entire network, workgroup, double click the PC with the printer, right click the printer & click 'connect'. Trouble is next time I'll have forgotten that, but all good now. I even managed to set up sharing, from the desktop to me laptop. Laptop only gota 15 GB hard drive, so being able to access the desktop is good. Thanks again, Ian |
