1335257 2013-04-02 22:53:00 My nan switched from a Windows XP desktop to a Windows 7 laptop a while ago. She kept her desktop so she could play Dragons Challenge Mahjong, a game she really likes. (Company went bust I think; definitely not compatible with windows XP.) The desktop is really slow and starting to crawl, and it is annoying to her that she has to keep it around to play one game.

Is there anyway of getting this setup to work in her Windows machine? I've looked around, but most tutorials require Win 7 Pro (hers is Home Premium).

Cheers

1335258 2013-04-02 23:33:00 If you have a spare XP licence you could set up your own VM in VMware (which has Unity mode, similar to XP Mode). Being technically "incompatible" with XP I would say it should work fine, resources shouldn't be an issue for a game that old. pcuser42 (130)
1335259 2013-04-03 00:15:00 No spare XP key sadly. Also, the XP key on her desktop is a preinstalled key, so can't transfer it. Nick G (16709)
1335260 2013-04-03 00:55:00 Is this the same game - Online version dragon-mahjong (games.yahoo.com) Otherwise have you tried running it in compatibility mode ? wainuitech (129)

No, not the same. I'll try and see if compatibility mode works.

1335262 2013-04-03 01:35:00 Have you got a copy of any other OS it can run on, say, Windows 98? (If wainuitech's suggestion fails :p) pcuser42 (130)

Nope.
Might try installing linux in a VM, then installing wine and trying that...a 'little' complicated though :p

1335264 2013-04-04 01:07:00 I'd be searching for a cheap or free similar Mahjong game myself. Surely there's another one around you Nan would like as much that will run under windows 7. dugimodo (138)

Here you go, www.gametop.com Free and it plays on Windows 95/98/XP/ME/Vista/7 Add in Windows 8 as well as that's what I just installed it on :) wainuitech (129)

Will definitely give it a go (Its free, can't hurt!), but I wouldn't count on it. I've already shown her other mahjong games, and she hasn't liked any of them :p
