Being Hydro power it is also clean and free of CO2 issues, unlike all the gas, coal and oil generators, so there's room for Meridian to dump a lot of cheap power onto the grid. I think what they're more likely to do is deal some lessons to the people who've entered long term fixed price contracts with Mercury (with $150 fee if broken). Meridian will drop prices to their own consumers which the others will be unable to match. Customers will dump Mercury at great pain to themselves, and Meridian will bask in Mercurys pain, coming out looking like the good guys. |
