1310313 2012-11-03 20:00:00 One of my rants to NZ herald "letter to editor" was working 9 hour 9 day fortnight. The argument is it would broaden the peak rush hour and might flatten it, if enough people did it This would mean they dont have to waste money on roads just so it only gets maximum use in rush hour, and some people might get that seat on a bus or train, instead of standing.

Business would not suffer, some companies might get away with a 9 day fortnight, while others who deal with the public, their staff would take that other day off at different days of the week, and their customers could get a extra hour a day to visit that company.

When I sent the letter in a fellow work mate (who has since left the company) loved the idea and said he would be better off if he could work a 9 hour 9 day fortnight, not only at work but would not have to fight the busy traffic twice in the day once a fortnight

Would you like to stay home five days a fortnight and have that extra day to odd jobs around the home?

But as you guessed that letter to the editor did not come to much.

I think it is so much better writing to the papers, it gives readers something to think about, where as here you are training people the use there fingers without thinking.

1310314 2012-11-03 20:11:00 It's an interesting notion, but having tried 4-day 10hr weeks in the past, I wasn't a fan. My attention span wanes around the 8 / 8.5hr mark as it is, productivity declines, but it does all sound rather appealing! Chilling_Silence (9)
1310315 2012-11-03 20:26:00 I am working four days on and four days off at the moment. I like the idea of all that time off. I have a second income and do not need to work full time.

I was discussing working hours with a factory worker and he told me that he works four days on and four days off. He works a ten hour day for the four days he is on. Working hours can easily be varied under an employment contract to suit the operations of a company.

1310316 2012-11-03 21:19:00 I was doing a 4 day week before. It was great having a 3 day weekend.

But it has nothing to do with traffic. Look at the school holidays, traffic vanishes.

This only accounts for a small percentage. The real reason traffic drops over school holidays in my opinion is because familys go away and take time off together so there are simply not as many people going to work.
