| 1310260 | 2012-11-03 07:31:00 | Just a little friendly note, In reply to one of my former posting, (I think parts has been removed) I mentioned, spreadsheets, to which my English was criticized by another forum member . Not to mention ability of Mathematics . The thread was completely useless for what I asked . Let me just fill you in on some of the bigger picture . I had my Maths two accredited at the local technical institute . My maths two tutor has since become a professor (I doubt if I as a student had anything to do with it) and has appeared on TV over other issues . My English has never been as strong, I never liked it while I was at school, however I have, to try and improve my English, sent a number of “letter to editors” this includes Magazines in UK, Australia, and New Zealand, recently I quickly whipped up a letter intended for their own magazine internal use feedback, The editor put it in “letters to the editor” and gave me the best letter issue prize . Also letters to newspapers, one newspaper, I can better remember was when there was some local objection to Rodney Hide wearing has yellow coat by the head of the local business community, one sentence in my letter went “if smokers are aloud to smoke in Newmarket, then I think Rodney should be aloud to wear his yellow coat” the newspaper printed two more letters in response to that . While Television & Video repairs where going strong I was the biggest contributor to a monthly bulletin ETSA (Electronic Technology Service Association) that went out to brown goods service companies near you, one of the articles I wrote (was about 2 and a bit pages) was what goes on while a 286 powers up to the DOS prompt, in the article told how one could plug in a P . O . S . T . (Power On Self Test) module, the number that gets displayed on the module indicates where the fault in the computer could be, of course software like “check-it” was completely useless until the computer had finished its POST . I also started a “tech tips” series aimed to improve workshop productivity, The editor or I never got any credit from that, other service people around NZ did if they sent in a tip, This was copied by the Australian equivalent organization and never gave any credit that it came from NZ, unlike us ETSA we always gave credit on who wrote the original article . Like one of the tips when I had to feed coax through the floor – through the ceiling/floor gap – through the ceiling of the floor below, as you might guess, as you poke the coax through the floor it would curl up and be hard to find the hole in the ceiling . Solution: easy, get a long wood drill bit that has a screw end on the tip, screw that into the end of the coax and that drops down both holes no trouble . One of the best editors I have seen was someone that did the CBD city e-newsletter (and also offers herself professional services proof reading for employment) tidied up my story, removed my sick humor and sent the story back to me to check over and correct before it was sent out to readers . By the way I was in this group some years ago, but I got sick the children and deleted my password auto-log-on so after I gave the forum a break I would not remember the password and not be able to log-on with my user name . The bottom line is, I like to think when I make a posting it will be read by adults in this forum . As my mother often said while I was little boy to us children “if you can not say anything nice, dont say anything at all . ” |
