1335561 2013-04-09 03:02:00 Wonder if the 3rd party AV companies will get up in arms about that the way people did about Microsoft bundling IE with Windows.

I think they already have...

And the user can install something else instead, just like they can with IE.

1335562 2013-04-09 03:37:00 Most people who have Windows 8 dont even know that it comes with MS's Antivirus installed by default.Although it is installed by default, what I have seen so far that it is also disabled by default because there is always some trial install of McAfee or some other rubbish installed. I might be wrong, but I don't think I have seen one enabled and active right from the get go and always have had to go in and enable it. What has everyone else found so far? Iantech (16386)

It's enabled by default on a clean install. ;)

I was thinking more of the banded systems bought from Hardly Normal, Blond and Blond etc. - The ones your client goes out and buys without your consultation and the first you hear about it is a phone call asking if you can please transfer their photos, doc and email to the new pc they just bought. Your first question is "Is it Windows 8", they say "yes" and your heart sinks and you know you are in for a 1 hour session just on teaching them how to use the start screen and desktop. lol Iantech (16386)

I thought you were, I tend to do clean installs on any new PC I buy, pre-built or otherwise :p

An hour? I showed my mum around Windows 8 for about five minutes and she picked it up quite quickly after that...

Yep, Brand name PC's seem to come With McAfee or Symantec Trialware, even the business class PC's that toaster shops dont sell.
Despite HP promisng us they are going to stop the shovelware\trialware on their new business class PC's & lappies
The Symantec trialware often leaves some minor traces behind, that even the removers cant get rid of.
I have seen a new PC with Mcaffe, mcaffe pre-install disabled the Win Firewall (disabled by Mcaffe), disabled in a messy way that was VERY hard to re-enable.

1335567 2013-04-10 04:26:00 Just got another PC in with the new FBI virus. It got straight past an up to date Nod32.
In my experience, NOD32 still miss's malware that it should be detecting, stuff that FREEWARE mbytes can detect.
This is why its very hard for me to justify selling NOD to home users.

In this case , just need to take one look at all the crap this guy has loaded on his PC, its not too surprising its infected.
No av can defeat user stupidity

Yep, while no AV is perfect if its out of date it may be not catching what it should.

The current latest Version is 6.0.316.0

Often people cant be bothered checking for newer versions. Its either lazy or they haven't been shown how to do it.
