1335252 2013-04-03 20:16:00 Does gargoyle support VLANs? Alex B (15479)
1335253 2013-04-03 21:20:00 AFAIK it's only via SSH, not the WebUI, but I believe being based on OpenWRT it does, because OpenWRT supports VLANs. There's just no flashy WebUI config for it in Gargoyle, that's all... but it's not hard to add a vlan in linux anyways. Chilling_Silence (9)
1335254 2013-04-03 21:30:00 I don't know enough about it really, but guessing the hardware also has to support VLAN tagging. Reason I ask is some UFB (maybe all?) require WAN traffic to be tagged. My understanding is this will be so they can have Voice and Data VLANs. Alex B (15479)
1335255 2013-04-03 21:38:00 I can't comment on UFB requiring it, to be honest I've not looked into it enough. I know that VDSL2 requires your WAN use VLAN ID 10, which breaks some imported routers where the firmware doesn't support it. A friend tried importing some Thomson routers thinking it'd be cheaper than sourcing them locally. None of them supported VLAN on the WAN interface, so they were all useless, coz Thomson / Technicolor don't give out firmwares to non-end-users.

Edit: Yeah a quick Google and it definitely supports it, just not in the WebUI yet. Wouldn't be difficult for somebody to whip together a module for it though surely?

1335256 2013-04-04 05:41:00 I'm looking at Snap now, they're a bit lesser than Telecom. But yeah I think many people can't be bothered switching to UFB. For most people out there, Telecom UFB are more than their ADSL connections and they have to sign a contract to forgo the extra charges. For the time being most people don't need it. I have some friends in Asia like Japan, where they have all you use BB internet but many people are happy with a iPhone 4 which is 3G, they use them outside and at home with the laptop. I think that it's been a lot of publicity of the hype of UFB but many people out there have little idea how it's going to be installed. Some of my friends think that it's already been enabled when the Chorus guys were at my road and it's just filling in some forms, they have no idea of ONT etc.., they think a fibre line is connected when they did the roadworks to their phone jacks. I'm only looking at it for future proofing, doubt my use will benefit from it. Nomad (952)
