1334990 2013-04-01 19:50:00 Outlook2013 from Office 365 leaves a copy of emails on the ISP server until it is removed from the inbox. SWMBO hates that as she leaves messages in the inbox until she processes them and then we get a message saying inbox full. How do I tell Outlook to remove them from the server without having to empty the inbox???
Thanks in advance
Colin

1334992 2013-04-01 20:22:00 Check the email account settings in the More settings on the last tab.
There you will see the option to uncheck for leaving messages on the server.
Since outlook 2010 this is on by default for pop accounts.

The ISP is slingshot.
CYB the last tab is a view tab?? Can't find anywhere that relates to leaving message on server. i know about the earlier version as I have set it before. Just can't find it in 2013. also it is an IMAP account.

1334994 2013-04-01 22:33:00 Just looking at mine, its a Outlook.com and pop3 accounts but the settings should be the same.

Click on File Info /Account Settings/Select your account/ Change/More Settings / Advanced Tab/ down bottom is leave messages on server

Thanks Wainui.
In my program I get to "Select your account" and i have a window with tabs as follows. E-mail, Data files,RSS Feeds, Sharepoint lists. Internet Calendars, Publish calendars, and address Books.
No Advanced tab or button. None of the tabs seem to relate to leaving message on server.
Are you looking at 2013??

1334996 2013-04-01 23:48:00 Yep certainly tis in Outlook 2013 - bland looking thing that it is ;) Great choices of colour, white and two shades of gray :yuck:

See Pic for locations of "change" Once you click that the other window will open and show the More settings ( near the bottom right hand side) then the advanced tabs etc

1334997 2013-04-02 00:08:00 Thanks Wainui for your patience.
Got there. Opened "more settings" and went to advance tab. Headings are Server Port numbers,Server Timeouts, Folders, Sent items, and Deleted items.
Deleted items has 2 tick boxes
Mark Items for deletion
Purge Items when switching.
Nothing about leaving messages on server:(

1334998 2013-04-02 01:39:00 Just made up a fake IMAP account for comparison - on the window that has all the details, ( after clicking Change) to the right of your name is a slide bar, that looks like it has options, but cant actually find anyway to stop it completely

You have to remember IMAP is designed to keep messages on the server for syncing between devices and the server.

If you wanted to stop it completely then a pop3 account may be better:2cents:

1334999 2013-04-02 02:14:00 I didn't know that about IMAP - ineresting. That explains all the syncing that is going on. Don't need or want it as I don't 'sync" with anything else.
Will have to get hold of Slingshot and see what advise they have to offer.
I wonder if it can just be changed?
FYI the slider you are talking about is "Mail to keep offline:"
Sliding it to the left gives various times from 1 month on left up to 24 months on the right with the last one being All
