Perhaps I am a little bit older than you as I recall it being known as the RSPCA. The title "Royal" is not snob value but is a Royal Charter bestowed by the Crown. These days the SPCA's official title which I found out on their website is: "The SPCA (Royal New Zealand Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Incorporated) is a registered charity." But what I wondered was why and when was the "Royal" dropped from the name the SPCA is known as. |
