| 1476065 | 2021-04-05 21:39:00 | Case in point. My mums oven was a nightmare. Old, yellowed and the seals were gone. It had rust on the bottom of oven, in warmer. Then a couple of the simmerstats went....she rang one of the church people, an electrician. He changed them and decided to also change 3 of the control knobs (why, beats me) as well and charged her $330!!! Now I could have changed the simmerstats for $20 each.... But I wasn't allowed then. Shortly after the glass top cracked. I made her ditch it. Looked up a new oven on Pricespy and we got it for $900, same type, glass top, no yukky ring elements...and it has a separate grill too, that feature I love, not only could you use oven bake at same time as grill if you felt like it...it makes it so much easier to clean. She should never have had it fixed. And that bastard ripped her off, he didn't quote her, he took forever to do the job, delaying for ages, and finally I had to corner him and insist he give her a price...she had another large bill coming up around then too so we needed to know....he left it in letterbox. I bet, I might have ripped his head off for such a rip off price. She paid, I said she shouldn't have had it done. Lesson learned, I sort these things out now. |

Electrician also quoted replacement neon indicator lights (the bezels cracked apart in short order) at something insane like $60 each (WTF??) I bought some generic ones from RS Components for ~$7 each and wired them in myself. And replaced all the simmerstats at once - about $60 for all 4 - bought from TradeMe. The replacements were still going last I used it, and outlasted the factory originals!! |
