1471221 2020-08-17 04:16:00 I have two copies of a film and to my old eyes they appear to be the same visually. However, can some one tell me which should be the best for viewing? I would go with #1 but?

#1. 1.96G, 1024x576. Data rate 2332kbs, Total bit rate 2653kbs.
#2. 1.21G 1280x534. Data rate 1448kbs, Total bit rate 1602kbs.

My monitor is a 24" Samsung, 1920 x1080. I also would view on a Sony Bravia 55".

Both are pretty crappy resolution, arguably #2 is a bigger picture....closer to 720p, but much lower bitrate. Also a weird aspect ration, possiblly 2.35:1 (theatre aspect)
#1 might look better as it's stuff more information into the file. And is not overly stretched at 16:9 so should fill up your TV picture more.

1471223 2020-08-17 05:46:00 Wouldnt it also depend on
how they were encoded/transcoded/ripped ?
also frame rate ?
can sometimes get audio sync issues getting progressively worse as the movie progressed , if converted badly .

and what the original source was
If it was a ~screener~ , someone in a picture theater recording it on a camera/phone ........ :)

1471224 2020-08-17 05:54:00 It is from a DVD I own and I want to download it to my PC in the best resolution. Bryan (147)

make an ISO of the DVD.
VLC can play ISO's of movies .

"to my old eyes they appear to be the same visually"
sometimes it really doesnt matter that much , so if we cant notice the REAL WORLD difference between 2 things .... :-)

The original DVD is probably only 720p anyway ?
