137922 2003-04-22 12:15:00 Does anyone know how to take a snapshot of a screen.Like a spreadsheet or perhaps desktop so it can be emailed? seacrest (2893)
137923 2003-04-22 12:27:00 Press the "Print Scrn" for your entire desktop, or "Alt" + "Print Scrn" for a snapshot of just the active window. b1naryb0y (3)
137924 2003-04-22 12:32:00 Thankyou, that works great. Is there a way to edit the image? seacrest (2893)
137925 2003-04-22 12:37:00 Just paste it into your favourite image editing program and away you go, MS Paint would be sufficient.

Using Paintshop Pro or similar you can save them to .jpg files which will make the file smaller and more email friendly. (when you take screenshots the default is .bmp which is quite large)

137926 2003-04-22 12:38:00 Here are some good sites with instructions:

www.mccannas.com

www.htmlgoodies.com - this one details Paintshop Pro but further down the page in italics are some tips for using Paint.

One for Paintshop Pro (www.lib.odu.edu) if you have it.

Last one: www.io.com

Edit: Some replies have cropped up since I opened this window but I will post this anyway in case others are interested. You may find some good info for yourself as well. :-)

137927 2003-04-22 21:35:00 ages ago I had a program that would allow me to capture just the active window of any app, without all the toobars and address bars etc. of that app.
is there a prt scr button combination to do that on the key board? or was it just a feature of that prog (hijack I think it was called)

thanks Trev

137928 2003-04-23 01:42:00 Hold down the Alt key when you press Print Scrn and it will capture just the active window and not the whole desktop. Susan B (19)
137929 2003-04-23 03:00:00 yes I know that one, but to get the screen, of the app in focus, but not all the buttons at the top (back, forward, stop etc. and file, edit view etc.) or the info strip at the bottom....just the window worked in, at the time.
sorry difficult to describe!

in paint, for example, just the grey box with the white work area, but not the tools on the left or the colours at the bottom and not the file, edit view at the top.

that's a better description!

137930 2003-04-23 03:24:00 Just take the screenshot with the Alt+PrintScrn keys and then crop the image afterwards in your graphics editor. Susan B (19)
137931 2003-04-23 03:31:00 An excellent little program is Capture (from AnalogX)
I have mine set to start on boot-up, and use F12 as the key to take the snapshot.
The image is saved as a bmp file, and can be edited in Paint
