137730 2003-04-21 23:37:00 My previous posting outlines some of the agony I experienced trying to establish a stable connection with a new DSL-504 Router and a new Jetstarter account:

pressf1.pcworld.co.nz

Anyone with one of these routers that have begun to give connection problems should read the following thread:

www.unixathome.org

It seems that an incompatibility has occurred between this model of router and new gear installed by Telecom.

A fix is available at D-Link's support site:

www.dlink.com.au

or by calling D-Link support:

0800 900 900..........who will talk you through the procedure.

I understand that all new D-link Routers will be tweaked to deal with this compatibility problem and prospective buyers may wish to have this confirmed before making their purchase.

Let me add that I wouldn't want to put anyone off getting a DSL 500 or 504. Apart from this problem that I was unfortunate to hit at a crucial time, and that I trust has been permanently resolved, it is a very fine router that does my home networking and jetstream connecting very efficiently. I understand that most brands of adsl modems and routers at times have had their problems.

137731 2003-04-22 01:51:00 There is a minor error in brig's D-Link support site URL. It should be:
www.dlink.com.au

Hmmm. I just copied and pasted the url into this message and previewed it and find that the same fault occurs when I copy and paste from a successful connection. For some reason, a space is inserted between "shoot" and "ing" and I cannot get rid of it.

Suggest you copy and paste the url into your browser window, remove the space, and fire away.

137732 2003-04-22 01:59:00 That problem happens with Press F1 when the link gets a bit long, there's no way around it, so it pays to look out for it :) Terry Porritt (14)
137733 2003-04-22 02:15:00 I spotted that URL problem, and was hoping someone could suggest what the answer was.........thanks :)

Try this:www.dlink.com.au

137734 2003-04-22 02:21:00 Thanks Terry. At least it isn't "operator error" - that's a relief!

137735 2003-04-22 03:12:00 Its much better if you insert the URL the way the forum was designed to accept it, like this (www.dlink.com.au) godfather (25)
137736 2003-04-22 03:27:00 Thanks godfather, but how did you do that? I tried once and fell back covered in confusion.

137737 2003-04-22 03:34:00 You insert the URL as follows (and as describes in the formatting options on the entry page):

(I will insert extra spaces to avoid it being shown as a URL)

You insert it like [ url = h t t p:// w w w.domain.co.nz] put text such as "this" here [ / url]

Remember I have used a lot of spaces to fool the formatting into displaying the requirements and not the end result. Remove all spaces (you can have one either side of the text "this" or whatever text you choose to show as the link).
