137903 2003-04-22 08:08:00 I know of articles in getting WinNT's Bootloader working with Lilo, I would possibly need convincing in why I should use Grub when Lilo is there but I heard that Lilo maybe taken off newer Distros now.

Can you do the same thing with Grub, get it working with WinNT's Bootloader. I prefer WinNT's bootloader due to issues with NTFS.

I'd possibly use Lilo till the day it's no longer distributed but it'd be good to know of a way of using grub how I use lilo.

137904 2003-04-22 08:51:00 I have not yet tried GRUB - I prefer to stay with LILO. I will be installing RH9 in a few days and will stay with LILO.

All the documentation however points to the fact that there should be no problems - put in the MBR as you would with LILO.

137905 2003-04-22 08:55:00 I use GRUB, as it comes default with RedHat, and it simply picks up another OS and calls it DOS.

From there, I have renamed it (During setup, and then monidied the name again later) to Win2K/98 Boot Loader, coz its just that.. the Win2K Boot loader with 98 underneath... :-)

Grub was also easier to re-setup than Lilo was when I was toying with XOSL!

137906 2003-04-22 09:15:00 I am happy to boot using a floppy disk or preferably WinNT's Bootloader and I'm happy to stay with Lilo but hearing that it may not be distributed with newer distros just got me thinking about GRUB, could also mean that they'll stop working on Lilo, I'm not sure, I have not used GRUB at all I've always stayed with Lilo and find Lilo simple enough. I have yet to see what GRUB is like. Kame (312)
137907 2003-04-22 09:22:00 I prefer Lilo because you can uninstall it which you can't do with Grub. mikebartnz (21)
137908 2003-04-22 09:29:00 Fdisk /MBR also does the trick :-) Chilling_Silently (228)
137909 2003-04-23 05:37:00 FDISK /MBR and lilo -u do slightly different things. lilo restores the whole sector from the copy it saved when it was installed. FDISK /MBR makes the disk bootable. Sometimes. Graham L (2)
