137749 2003-04-22 00:01:00 I found that ICQ does not work when the user's account (Windows XP Professional OS) is limited access. I deleted and re-installed ICQ in the folder C:\ICQ instead of under Program Files but this made no difference. When I changed the user account to Administrator Rights however, ICQ worked fine.
Is there a way that ICQ can be made to work for a limited access account under Win XP Professional ?
TVMIA for any help.

137750 2003-04-22 00:11:00 In Win2k there was a way of setting up individual programs to work with any user under whichever account they were given. I can't find it in XP but I do know you can give XP users all types of accounts like Power User, Admin, etc.

In Win2k it was the Security Tab in the properties of the program where you can tell which user has what control of that program.

137752 2003-04-22 06:12:00 I'm using (well, TRYING to use <G>) ICQ Pro 2003a. Emile (3552)
137753 2003-04-22 06:26:00 In WinXP Pro the only types of account available are Computer Administrator or Limited. I think there were more types in Win NT4.
Also, there is no Security Tab for the program file ICQ.EXE.

137754 2003-04-22 06:37:00 try ICQ lite & see if that help at all. stu140103 (137)
137755 2003-04-22 09:37:00 Emile,

You are only shown those two but you can make the other users. This is found in the Administrator's Tools in Computer Management and requires just creating a User or dropping a User in a specific category like Power User and other ones they have to offer.

137756 2003-04-22 11:49:00 I'll give that a go tomorrow. Thanks for your help ! Emile (3552)
137757 2003-04-22 11:50:00 I will. Thanks a lot for your help ! Emile (3552)
137758 2003-04-23 05:50:00 I did find the additional user groups you mentioned. It turns out that a power user can run ICQ OK so I have added the user name involved to that group. Works fine now.
Many thanks for your help - I've learned something useful here !
