138151 2003-04-23 09:00:00 I have a problem with my web browser, everytime I open a new internet connection or open a new browser window I am redirected to www.hitpointer.com/textlinks.jhtml
I already have Ad-aware version 6 and have just installed Spy-bot Search and Destroy but to no effect. I also tried reinstalling IE6 this also had no effect. I assume that it is something in the registry, -how can I fix this?

Read the Faq (pressf1.pcworld.co.nz) in regards to Resetting your IE Homepage.

138153 2003-04-26 23:49:00 The home page is still set to google.com, however it (hitpointer) seems to have overridden IE search options, so when "google.com" is searched for, I am redirected to hitpointer -Alex- (3658)
138154 2003-04-27 00:10:00 When www.hitpointer.com/textlinks.jhtml is entered into the address bar, it redirects to the fassia.net site. This site is known for hijacking address-bar searches. I would of thought that spy-bot should of detected it.

There are manual instructions here (www.doxdesk.com)for removing it.

I have definitely got that msinfosys.dll file

I keep getting the message "too many parameters" when I type in

cd "%WinDir%\System"
regsvr32 /u msinfosys.dll

I can't paste it in either. Should there be a gap btween the 2 lines. I worked out it isn't two lines cos if press enter get another prompt.

Frustrating

138156 2003-05-08 03:14:00 I have come across spyware that disables adaware. If adaware & spybot were installed before the hijacking, try uninstalling them, deleteing anyfiles left over in their installation directory & reinstalling.

To prevent it happening again, head over to windowsupdate & install all the patches available (or choose a more secure browser).

138157 2003-05-08 03:56:00 Does anyone know if the LMHOST file accepts wildcards? It sounds almost like it has created an entry for *.*.*.* to redirect to the website...

I know about *.* but what does *.*.*.* mean?

Cheers

Well, as all files are split into two segments - the name and the suffix, hence when you search for *.* it searches for all files with all suffixes... However, as IP Addresses are always in 4 segments, that's what the *.*.*.* means - a * for every segment... I presume this is why he asked if LMHosts supports wildcards
