138138 2003-04-23 08:33:00 Hi all. We may be getting a Jet Start internet connection soon and I have a friend who has the same connection. He is running 98 and has program that lets him share the internet connection between two computers called WinRoute. I am running XP Pro (on both computers) and am wondering do I get WinRoute or can Windows automatically share the internet connection (using Ethernet cards for the network). If I do need to use WinRoute, how to I set it up? And If I do need to use XP, how is that done. Thanks all.

James

P.S: If it true that internet connections can not be shared over wirless conncetions?

138139 2003-04-23 08:44:00 You can use ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) on WindowsXP to share an internet connection to your Network.
Provided the machines on your network can communicate to eachother, there should be no problem sharing an internet connection via Wireless Connections.

Yes windows can share your Internet connection throw ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) (that is what we are using to share out jet start Internet connection, it does a good job :)), seen you have both computers networked that would be very easy.

I am not too sure how to set-up ICS under XP, some one else might be able to help you there :)

Are you getting an internal or external modem???

Hope this helps

Didn't see the second part of that question :p

To Install ICS (for the Host machine):
Click Start > Control Panel > Network Connections
Click the Internet Connection, and then, under Network Tasks, click Change settings of this connection.
Click the Advanced tab and then select "Allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet connection check box"
Also, Select "Establish a connection whenever a computer on my network attempts to access the Internet"
And that should be it :D

To Access the Internet From The Client Machine:
Click Start > Control Panel > Network Connections
Click the Network Connection
Click on TCP/IP and then Click Properties
In the Gateway tab, put the IP Address of your Host machine
In the DNS Servers tabs put your ISP's DNS Servers. If you are with Xtra these are 202.27.184.3 and 202.27.184.5

On Both Machines:
Open Internet Explorer > Tools > Internet Options
Click the Connections Tab
Select Never Dial A Connection
Click on LAN Settings
Remove all Ticks from in here

Then that's it :D - a Jetstream Connection shared :)
