| 138015 | 2003-04-23 02:05:00 | my family shares an internet connection (families pc, brothers pc & sisters pc). is there anyway i can set up a priority system, where the families pc gets 'first dibs' on the internet. so both brothers & sisters pcs wont connect when the families pc is connected (which currently disconnects the family pc). & when brother or sisters pcs are connected, families pc can disconnect them & connect itself. thanks. |

So your saying that all of your computers have modems in them and when the Family PC is connected to the internet, and the Brothers PC starts dialling then this disconnects the family PC's connection? You could tell the other PC's not to dial a connection without a dial tone? Otherwise an easier way would be to setup a home network and that means you all get internet access at the same time by using one PC (the Family PC) as a Gateway for the other PC's CyberChuck |

Oh . . So networkings out of the question? :p The only real way this would work is on the ISP's side of things as they would have to get their server to run a lookup on the hostname of your computer and if it's Family_PC then it has priority access . I'm not aware of ISP's which do this though, thus making it harder . . . I know that Xtra and some other ISP's will accept simeoultaneous connections from the same user, however the second connection get's charged at $2 . 50 per hour or something excessive like that . Sorry for the lack of help . Perhaps someone else has an idea? CyberChuck |

| 138020 | 2003-04-23 04:56:00 | You could change your password.. But that would be mean ]:) However, if you were willing to invest in another phone line and another dialup modem, or just get Jetstream then what you could do is get your family to dialup to your computer, which will act as a gateway to your ISP! :D - there would be some (minor) changing of settings, but it could work! | 138021 | 2003-04-23 05:00:00 | the only problem with that one m8 is im 15 & anything like that would involve long term hassling of my parents, & im all hassled out after a year of hassling for a new computer (but i did finally get one :)) lol | Craig (448) | ||
| 138022 | 2003-04-23 08:55:00 | Well, why dont u get network cards for all 3? I use 3 pcs on 1 connection here thru Ihug..No probs at all. The 3 are connected by a ethernet network to this PC thru a hub..The main PC dials up, the other 2 can get access to the net thru it. That way you dont have to dial up from the other PC's! That way, noone can disconnect anyone else | Spacemannz (808) | ||
