138305 2003-04-24 12:31:00 There are a few differences between the two but not much, a lot of the focus in this thread as been about the added programmes which has nothing to do with stability.
Win98 has better management of resources and more importantly the page file, which in turn leads to better stability, not to mention the bug fixes which help with stability.
If win98 works fine for you i wouldn't suggest upgrading to win98se as the cost wouldn't really out weight the benefits.
WinME is obviously a further improvement, and further on WinXP.
People can argue until they are blue in the face as to which one is the best, but remember the best version is the one that works best for you, and in this case it looks like win98 is the goer.

138306 2003-04-24 21:42:00 The problem is that the particular computer which is running Win98 (1st ed) isn't used all that often. When it is used, it works fine, which is why I don't complain. On average, I would use it less than 5 hours every month.

A computer I have which is running Win98SE however, tends to have a lot of severe problems. I think it is faulty hardware causing the problems though, so I won't blame the OS. (it had the same problems when I was using Win95, before I bought Win98SE)

Yeath right :D if you look after you PC well & not put junk on it & do a Scandisk / Disk Defragmenter every month it will be happy.

I am not going to get in to a flaying war over this; every one has a different option & I respect that.
That was my 5 cents worth :)

138310 2003-04-25 10:14:00 Thanks for the offer roofus. I have asked 2 computer technicians before, and they both think it's a hardware problem. The computer is very old though.

I'll start a new thread on this.
