138239 2003-04-24 12:01:00 I think Chill means that it manages the VMemory for you up to the maximum you have set it to.

Correct me if I'm wrong? ;)

Anyway now about this memory error I got, how do I fix that and stop it from happening again? I mean it got up to 98% done - how could windows just decide to crash then?!

138241 2003-04-26 02:01:00 If your video editing package requires more than 2GB of of pagefile then it is faulty. Just because the file is 4GB doesn't mean you need to load the whole thing into memory at the same time. I have edited 60GB+ uncompressed videos with no problems on my system with 786MB of RAM and a 1152MB pagefile using adobe premier. BIFF (1)
138242 2003-05-03 10:57:00 Oh I'm use VirtualDub for editing, and Vidomi for encoding. They are free, Professional tools that do way a way better job than Adobe Premier and others.

Adobe just doesn't cut it. You can't encode to MPG-Layer 3 Audio (Mp3) for your DivX video. I've also tried others, Video Edit Magic, VideoMach, to name a few. They just don't come close and they can't do the basics such as: cutting a small portion out of an avi file, then re-encoding back to exactly the same format.

138243 2003-05-04 03:51:00 I was doing that for a while - trying to get the minimum page file so Win2k would use my 512MB DDR RAM as apposed to the ATA100 pagefile - I would occasionally get messages telling me "Windows is increasing the size of your pagefile".

I have now reverted back to the recommended (1.5x RAM size) and have actually had better, stable performance with the large pagefile - I think this is just how Win2k/XP was designed to work - don't ask me why! ;)

138244 2003-05-04 03:54:00 Oh and I mean that I have locked the size of the pagefile (MIN & MAX are the same (1024MB -mmm 1GB)) so Windows isn't stuffing around with it when it should be working. ;) HadO (796)
