138055 2003-04-28 02:59:00 One of the reasons I deleted them was that they were under "Contents IE5" - as I'm now running IE6 I didn't think they were in use.
Anyway - after deleting them there has been no adverse effects - but a lot more freespace on my HD.
One little problem that has appeared (This was after running Registry First Aid) is that Outlook Express now has major delays when opening anything other than straight text - up to a minute this morning to open a couple of JPEG's.
Could it be possible that the registry has somehow got damaged - and if so - please tell me how to fix it.

Would really appreciate it.

Cheers

138056 2003-04-28 04:10:00 Oh and one more little thing - the pc will no longer do a restart or full shutdown from the start button.
So I guess I've really mucked something up - hope not :8}

138057 2003-04-28 05:46:00 How did you actually delete those files? Did you do it from a DOS prompt, the recommended method? As I said before, there is a FAQ on how to delete hidden index.dat files.

I would be surprised if your new problems are related unless you have done something else as well. Try doing a repair of IE from Control Panel>Add/Remove programs and see if that makes any difference.

IE6 will still use the Contents IE5 folder/s.

138058 2003-04-28 07:10:00 reduce the amount of internet temp files your PC stores in the first place might help on Internet Explorer
in Tools
Internet Options
Settings
drop the amount of data it stores to a lower figure, I use about 50MB which is heaps so that shouldnt slow down your browsing, click on and delete your tempiorary internet files, you can if you want to get internet explorer to empty your internet temp files whenever you close it,
in Tools, internet options, advanced
under security, tick, empty temporary internet files when internet explorer closes, click ok
wayno (3652)
138059 2003-04-28 07:14:00 having said that, emptying the temporary internet files doesnt empty everything ! ! if youre using windows 2000 or xp pro you cant delete using DOS wayno (3652)
