| 138652 | 2003-04-24 23:03:00 | Can one upgrade from Win98 2nd edition to XP without having to clear the HD to start from scratch? | billbarbob (3355) | ||

| 138654 | 2003-04-25 05:09:00 | Yes you can but from my experience its best to backup everything you want from the 98 system, make a windows start up disk from 98, then fdisk the hard drive, format it & do a clean install. I've tried the upgrade & it was a nightmare. | clearview (1550) | ||

XP CD's are bootable, so why fdisk the hdd? Just go into the BIOS and change the bootdisk to CD (if ya BIOS supports it). Save the settings. Chuck the XP CD in, and it'll ask you, if you wanna format in FAT or NTFS then install XP. Heaps quicker. And just be sure you have the speed and the ram for XP. Otherwise, it'll be as slow as a snail, and it'll take forever to load XP or move in XP, after you install it! | Spacemannz (808) | ||
