| 138640 | 2003-04-24 21:40:00 | Is it possible to set up outlook in two seperate windows installations to use the same Outlook file, so that emails downloaded from either OS will go to the same place, therefore readable in both Windows'? I know how to do it - I just don't want to destroy my PST file by attempting it without checking it out first :) Mike. |

| 138641 | 2003-04-25 13:14:00 | I don't have Outlook installed at the moment. But I'm picking that there would be an option somewhere to select where you want the files to be stored. Would then hope that they don't overwrite each other or something. I'll give it a go once I get round to putting some OSs on the other computer. |

| 138645 | 2003-04-25 14:04:00 | Okay yes its as i suspected it will only let one application to use the file at once. Here is some suggested options: 1. only use one email client with it and close it before opening the other client 2. Get extra software which can assist with the file sharing prob or something such as exchange server, or perhaps something smaller for the home enivronment 3. use different data files and import/export between each as required 4. allow for other remedies beyond this as others may suggest or you figure out for yourself |

Yeah I might just try it out on a backup copy of my PST when I get 4008 working again (it decided to stop booting when I installed a bootloader yesterday :)) I can tell Outlook where to look for the PST, and if I put an existing one there it'll use that rather than overwrite/delete it, so I'm guessing that it'll work for two installs (here's hoping!) We'll see though... Mike. |

It might not meet your needs exactly, its not fully spelled out but it may be worth noting for the import and export reasons: 1 Putting the PST File somewhere ******************************** FIle > import Export Export to file > next Personal folder file (.pst) > next Choose personal folders root branch then choose include sub folders > next Choose location > finish 2 Make a share for it ********************* Depends on operating system. either write back to me or lookup documentation to create share. Due to the variations in windows this would be rather large to list. 3 Linking to the file **** File > Data File Management > add file Tools > email accounts > view or change existing email accounts > Deliver new email to the following location > choose other file Restart outlook |

What's all that for? I just want to know if I can open the same PST from two installations of Windows - I don't need it open twice at the same time (how I'd do that I wouldn't know, considering I can only have one version of Windows running at the same time). So................... Will it be hazardous to have one PST accessed through two installations of Windows (on the same computer)? Mike. |
