138502 2003-04-24 08:24:00 We have bought Encarta 2001 on a CD disk. I tried to make a copy of it to use & put the original in a "safe place". However it would not copy, being "Protected". This seems unfair to me, yes I understand about illegal copying, but for your own use??? I am using Nero. Any comments

138505 2003-04-24 10:38:00 Hi,

Or just copy the entire CD to your Hard Drive naming a folder using that exact name of the CD

Just drag and drop and burn using Nero.

Try it

138507 2003-04-24 11:47:00 Thats normal for some types of protection.

Make sure you choose "game cd" in the profiles for reading & writing.

138508 2003-04-24 19:22:00 This topic is rather complicated

there is several types of protection.

One your identifying comes in several forms where the CD appears under circumstances to fool the devices as not working correctly as a means of protecting it from replication.

Yes CloneCD is one solution but may require tweaking, and caddy cds produced due to the process of finding what works. It does have an addon available called Clonyxl or other forms which may assist in getting the right settings for the implementation of the protection on the CD.

CloneCD has been around awhile from my experience quoted on some resources as being up there at the top level for copy protection. however i would like to mention a newcommer which has a tendancy to produce better replication in terms of it can produce fewer waste cds, although taking slightly longer to do so because it does more thorough testing.

I cannot say one scenario is best, be wary of anyone who claims to know what is best. If your serious though about CD burning or need to understand it to a well versed level i would recommend both CloneCD and Blindsuite. CloneCD presently may have a larger user base to gain support from, and its design in my assessment is more manual than the automation level reached by blindsuite which makes it even more suitable for the beginner users as well as unrecognised cds

Blindsuite may be found on the internt at various locations, Provided here is a download link on www.download.com
