138810 2003-04-25 06:21:00 I got a laptop with wireless lan. I just try to turn it on today. I suddenly find it out it working! I can connect to internet and very fast. Download 4M in 30s! However, my home don;t have any wireless hub or some kind of dvicement. Is that mean one of my neighbour have wireless lan? Another strange thing is the signal always say "no signal", but the internet still working! zkeasy (3278)
138811 2003-04-25 06:22:00 Forget one thing, the network is named "Newton". And who know about it? zkeasy (3278)
138812 2003-04-25 09:19:00 its gotta come from somewhere. if its not urs its someone else's. rayonline (2134)
138813 2003-04-25 09:20:00 heck 4M in 30s must be the $$$ full speed jetstream or be it a commercial business. rayonline (2134)
138814 2003-04-25 21:42:00 Agreed... Enjoy it while it lasts.. just dont get caught out.

I had the same thing with WinXP and Win2K with my WLAN, having it show up as 'media disconnected'.

Anyway, if you dont have any other WLAN adapters in your place, its somebody elses, and that is JetStream you've got there...

Just watch your PC though...

If you have access to somebody elses internet, who knows what they may have found of yours!

138815 2003-04-25 22:30:00 Yes, I think it someone else. So, I already disconnect it. Who know how far is wireless lan working distance? zkeasy (3278)
138816 2003-04-25 22:38:00 This is dependant on certain conditions, and also the type of WLAN.

802.11b estimates a max range of 150m indoors at 1MBPS, however, put a few walls in place, and your range gest cut down to 50 no sweat!

Outdoors, supposedly it'll do upto 500m, but real-life tests (outside of the lab) say that 300m is a more realistic max.

138817 2003-04-26 00:46:00 I am still confused about when I connect it, but it still appear "NO SIGNAL". And sometimes, It can connect internet when wierless lan appear "DISCONNECTED". zkeasy (3278)
138818 2003-04-26 06:45:00 You're not running WinXP or Win2K Pro by any chance are you?

I was confused too.. but it was fine.. try using IP Scanner to see the PC's on your LAN available from rAdmin.com :-)
