138806 2003-04-25 04:52:00 I have 1 computer running xp pro 256m ram as the system connected to internet, & another running 98se2 512m ram as the remote system. When networked the xp system can access the 98se2 system, up & downloading as normal. When trying to access the xp system with the 98se2 system, a message appears with Access denied, not enough memory, quit some programs. We closed all except network neighbourhood with the same result. Internet sharing works ok, tried rebooting, tried running the networking wizard again with no joy.
Any ideas please.

Thanks
Phil

138807 2003-04-25 14:23:00 is the access denied message seperate the not enough memory problem?

1 Access denied

Create a user which is supported by the relevant machine

2 Not enough memory

Okay to cut to the point here, how much ram is available and how much is being used? on a clean boot please.

for you to access the XP machine from the 98 machine you'll need to log into the 98 machine using a username AND password from an account on the XP machine (create a new account on the XP machine with a password if you don't have one already). That should get you past the access denied message.

As far as the "Not enough memory" message, I've not seen that in relation to networking, but it seems like there could be some rogue program in there somewhere hogging your resources (as 256 and 512 is fine for what you're trying to do). However the message could be linked to the Access Denied one, so once you've fixed that part, you may not get the Not Enough Memory one.

138809 2003-04-25 23:34:00 Adding users to XP is time-consuming on a network. Just enable simple file sharing in XP and the 98 PC will see it/ get into the shared folder.

Heaps easier!
