I believe that at the time when the new forum was being developed, there was allowances made for adding categories to either divide it all or make searches easier. It was however decided to leave the beast running as is (if it ain't broke.....etc) Perhaps at a later time we might see the categories get added to the search facility.

As for something to ensure that zero reply posts gets noticed... I suggest that posters asking questions that don't get answered on the day remember that they can <bump> the question back up if need be. One can also search for a similar question both here and on google. Sometimes questions don't get answered because they are just too similar to something asked minutes beforehand. Please, look round!

138927 2003-04-26 03:52:00 There aren't many with 0 answers. I (and a few others) sometimes bump one (probably 3 in the last month) if it is on the second or third page, even when I not be able to give an answer. (I'm only omniscient; it doesn't mean I know it all B-)).

I suspect that "Categories" were included in the standard Forum software, and it was easier to leave the code in than to take it out. :D

138928 2003-04-26 04:40:00 I like your idea captive. I like your thinking and I am sure that if it was cheap/easy/free then I can't see any reason not to implement your ideas, (but I dont work there so don't hold your breath) . I suppose in answer to some of the responses posted here "0" replies does not necessary mean that it is fixed. Some people will post just to "air" there indifference to something semi related to the original problem. ;) and sometimes helpful advice is not always the correct advice.

138929 2003-04-26 23:30:00 Captive: I can appreciate your frustration but your suggestions probably won't be implemented in any great hurry due to lack of funds and resources .

Reading most (all?) of your replies I can see that you are quite a valuable contributor to the forum although you appear to be an irregular visitor . Your time and shared expertise is greatly appreciated but please do not feel that you have to search for and answer every post that has no replies or satisfactory answer .

If you can find any unanswered posts within the last two-three days or 100 or so threads and can contribute to those that would be wonderful, but like the others have said, going much further back is pretty much a wasted exercise . Who knows that the person has not already found the answer elsewhere during that time? If they still required assistance they would post again or "bump up" their post, I am sure . That happens frequently .

Please continue to assist when you have the time and do not fret over unanswered posts going too far back into the past . That way your time would be much better utilised and appreciated . :-)
