138781 2003-04-25 05:16:00 Could someone please tell me whether I can install Lycoris/LX linux on a second hard drive, and use my windows 98 OS chooser, if so, how is this done?
If I want to boot from a 2nd hard drive, what is the best IDE configuration, my drives are as follows.
Original HD - Windows 98
Original CDROM
New HD - Linux
I hope I have explained this clearly.
Thanks in advance,
Jase

138782 2003-04-25 05:33:00 I didn't know win98 had an OS chooser, unless its a 3rd party one. But Lycoris will install a boot manager automatically to let you choose between linux & windows.

As for the harddrive, stick it on the same channel as your 1st harddrive, aka primary slave.

138784 2003-04-25 13:50:00 I would recommend you backup the system then install lycoris.

When install lycoris from booting off the cd, It should automatically generate a boot menu which will still allow you to use the other operating system.

Why not?

The best setup for your disks are as follows:

Main HDD = Primary Master
Second HDD = Primary Slave
CD Rom = Secondary Master.

The Windows 98 booter won't load Linux - you'll either need a third party boot loader, or use the one from Linux (although you can still set that to boot Windows as default). Most Linux distros will let you install it to a second Hard drive - it won't put anything onto the main HDD except for its boot loader. Once it's all installed and the boot loader is correctly set up to load Windows by default, it should all work how you're wanting.
