139205 2003-04-27 06:14:00 >>I would like to have a holiday

I know how you feel E.ric... bills, bills and even more bills. Still trying to pay off the holiday we took back in November. This working for yourself is overrated (ok, it is fun at times!)

139207 2003-04-27 06:58:00 Hi Polk

Lake Tarawera, several metres to the right of the jetty & boat ramp?

Any prizes for getting it right? :D

(Nice pic anyway)

Cheers

139209 2003-04-27 08:34:00 This is not what U are looking for but:-

The photo has a blue caste to it.

The boat cradle adds nothing and certainly does not frame the picture, it sticks up in the middle of it,

There is little detail in the bush on the left of the picture, perhaps you zoomed too much. 1.3 m/pix is great for closeups, but landscapes/seascapes are a bit of a challenge for the camera.

Pity about the wind on the water in the background, though nice reflections in the foreground where there is no wind.

The picture has both up/down AND left/right scroll bars. Up/down is bad enough, but never never never make your viewer scroll sideways. To fix this just resize the picture.

And lastly - the foreground is not perfectly in focus.

If you are keen, join a camera club. The Photographic Society of New Zealand (PSNZ) have branches in many towns and there are some online forums as well where members will do exactly what I have done, pointing out areas that you should look out for in future photos. This is the way serious photo buffs learn.

Good luck

139210 2003-04-27 08:49:00 mmmm, nice pic Polk. Reminds me of when we are able to cruise flat out in our slow boat across Marlborough Sounds first thing in the morning with the flat, oil-like, calm conditions. Bliss!

Totally different story coming home in the afternoon though - like riding wild horses! :D

139211 2003-04-27 09:02:00 Tobas,
Polk said the picture was 1024 x 768. If you want to view it at a smaller screen res. and get scroll bars then that's not his fault. 1024 x 768 is pretty much the standard these days.
Your critique is fair, but considering the equipment the picture was taken on, the quality is pretty good. Personally (and I guess all art is a personal viewpoint), I really like the layout of the picture, its blue cast (which Photo Shop can soon cure if you don't) and its misty quality.

You mean that there was more to the photo than the boat cradle. I hadn't reallly noticed.

139213 2003-04-27 21:06:00 Nice pic....

There is something about a picture that has simple lines that make it special.

If anyone is interested in looking at more NZ photos, have a look at my website...it is very amatuerish... but I am happy as a first attempt...
