| 139447 | 2003-04-27 23:32:00 | I have the RTA220 which is similar. I'm having similar problems. You wont get audio coms to work unless you have UPnP and XP (from what I have read), and providing that the router supports UPnP (Universal Plug and Play). I run Win 98SE. If you set up a DMZ host then you will be able to send file/receive files. The other way for file transfer is to set up virtual servers in the configuration for the following ports: 6901 UDP & TCP 5190 UDP 1863 UDP & TCP 6891-6900 TCP You only have to forward one port of that range say 6891 if you only want to send/receive one file at a time, the range allows for simultaneous transmission. In some respects with these type of programs like NetMeeting and ICQ, going to a router from dial up has been a step backwards, as regards audio/video contact. I have problems with ICQ, my wifes computer can receive an ICQ chat request and open a chat window, my supposedly similar Win98 SE setup wont, I get a cant establish peer to peer connection error message. |

| 139450 | 2003-05-05 12:51:00 | Hi Murray Thanks for your reply Does it mean that if i set that IP address up, I can use voice-chat or file sharing on every computer And also, i am actually using the network.. if i set my own computer as the host for the SMTP server, do i need to turn on my computer in order for other people in my network group to use the voice-chat function??? Thanks jackyht |

| 139451 | 2003-05-05 13:12:00 | Haven't attempted it yet myself so would't like to give you bad advice . I'm trying to remember a site I visited the other day re VPN and pinholing, chat, etc . I'm sure I bookmarked it . It talked about the best way to do it while maintaining security . Sure it was more along the lines of VPN than DMZ but need to go take another look before I shoot my mouth off . Will post back when I've found it, trouble is I was reading up on something else and got side tracked briefly onto subject . Cheers Murray P |
