2003-04-29 09:39:00 | Okay, I have a P2 300Mhz with my TV-Card in it now, only it records a little slow, even at a small resolution. I know how to optimise a PC and everything.. Nothing else but the BARE essentials are running (Ive used WinTasks.. and Fully closed that afterwards..) Its running Win98 with 256MB RAM.. And Im wondering about overclocking it to squeeze out a little more Juice. I know it can do 30fps for saving video, coz when watching it I get well over that! So.. Im hoping to squeeze out a little more.. The case top is already off coz Ive done so many Hardware mods in the last two days to it.. the HeatSink/Fan are staying cool enough... Im wanting First Hand PF1'ers experience here please! Oh, and another thing - Is it actually possible on it or do I need to divulge into expensive software etc? Im a total n00b to the subject ;-) Cheers Chill.

2003-04-29 09:44:00 | I've overclocked several... the result: They ran slightly faster :D I doubt you'll get much benefit from overclocking - you won't increase the speed by that much. Mike.

2003-04-29 10:37:00 | well i've had a p2 350 running at over 500. improved the games a fair bit but we did start bumping into the odd crash (i think we where overclocking the ram a bit to much). how far you can oc it wil depend a lot on the system you have. its proberly worth it provided it dosn't get unstable. however it may be cheaper to go buy a faster system than buy all the cooling gear thats required. i've also had a p75 at 120 :)

2003-04-29 10:49:00 | Yeah.. Well.. Its cooled enough.. Ive got another CPU and another System fan if I think I need it.. How hard is it to do?

2003-04-29 11:30:00 | chilling silence, you'd have a better time learning from an overclocking community, not a general-help community. So head over to an overclocking forum like forums.overclockers.co.nz (more specifically: forums.overclockers.co.nz ) or forums.overclockers.com.au and ask.. there's a lot of faq's out there which you can read, and a lot of people willing to help. First of all what motherboard do you have? With that information I (or any other overclocker) would be able to better inform you of your options

2003-04-29 12:35:00 | Hi Chill My 2 experiences of overclocking: 1/ Tried to clock a p133 (1996 ver) a couple of years back and managed to get it running at 120 :8} whatever I tried I couldn't get it to run any faster. I think the cpu was at the top of its speed anyway, it was just before they brought out the mmx cpu. 2/ I had to underclock an AMD k6 11 to run under 350 to apply a patch that fixed a bug with win95 os2 and that cpu. That was was very successfull and I even ran it at 550 for a while B-) ]:) haven't really been tempted since (except for a Gforce GTS/Pro gfx card) just built new systems when required. Have fun Murray P
