| 140021 | 2003-04-29 09:10:00 | Evening all :-) I have Norton SystemWorks 2003 Professional edition. I have noticed that for the last several weeks LiveUpdate always tells me that there are new NAV definitions ready to download - it has not once told me that I already have the lastest updates (even though I do). It only does this with the virus definitions. My number of current definitions always tally's with the number shown on the Symantec Security Response (www.symantec.com) website. I can manually run LiveUpdate (either in Interactive mode or Express mode) several times a day and it always finds and downloads/installs a "new" NAV update. These additional bogus updates will have the same file size (currently 163.0 KB). Rebooting the PC makes no difference. I am always logged on as Admin (XP) when performing LiveUpdate. The genuine updates are still found and downloaded OK (I check dates and def #'s after each "update") So it seems that LiveUpdate never seems to register the fact that NAV is currently up to date. LiveUpdate also covers the rest of the Norton SystemWorks programs but only has this hang-up with the viral definitions. A search around the Symantec support site only shows solutions for when LiveUpdate doesn't actually download/install updates - my situation is the opposite, as it won't stop doing it. :D Has anyone else experienced this? It is more of a nuisance factor for me than anything else. Cheers Jen :-) |

| 140023 | 2003-04-29 11:15:00 | Hi Mike I haven't tried uninstalling/reinstalling as it is only a nuisance at this stage and does not affect the routine operation of NSW. As long as I control myself and only check for updates every couple of days, I guess I can live with it :D Jen |

| 140024 | 2003-04-29 20:27:00 | Hi I had a quick look at the Symantec site and found info like remove program applets (?) that use virus definitions or deleting the virus definitions folder which seems a bit harsh. I have used their email support service before and found them to be very efficient and helpful. As you say that it only has an annoyance factor at this stage I would be more inclined to fire off a similar worded email to this post as my experience with tinkering with Norton products is the end result may be worse than the current symptoms. |
