2003-04-30 22:40:00 | Im thinking about ADSL... 56k is just to slow..... The plans im looking at are caped at 128... which is all cool.... but they say that is the max speed.... What is the average.....??? Do you find the price paid is worth it for the added speed..... Thankx Falcon

2003-04-30 22:58:00 | 128k (Jetstart) will give typical speeds of 16 kB/s download which is around 4x or more the dial-up speed I used to get. So, yes, its good. I run around 1 GB per month, minimal international data (probably 100 MB) so the 5 GB international cap of Xtra is not a problem I do not do P2P or download music etc.

2003-05-01 00:06:00 | ADSL is great, average speed, about 12KB/s and don't forget it frees the telephone. Is it worth it? it sure is, if you had an extra line put in by Telecom it would cost about the same without the advantage of the extra speed. With Ihug you get 10GB a month which I would find impossible to use that much. Have a go ...Ron.

2003-05-01 01:31:00 | falcon, We've had it for a few weeks now and wouldn't want to go back to 56k dial-up. However, a word of warning......... if you are a regular here you'll have seen that some of us have had horrendous experiences, mainly with modem/router installation. If you don't have a solid technical background or access to help from someone who has, then I recommend you do a lot of research as you have a few important choices to make, and a few pitfalls to avoid. brig

2003-05-01 01:37:00 | Ok, lets try this post again for the 3rd time lucky :( stupid computer! Anyway.... I am with quicksilver & you also get 10GB of international cap The max speed varies, from Aprox 10 kb/s to Aprox 20kb/s But ADSL is great! You will like it, it is faster then 56 K & you can leave it on all day Like we do :) & get e-mail as soon as they arrive in your inbox etc... Also have a look here (www.netguide.co.nz) that will give you a list of all the ISP which support ADSL Hope this helps If you have any more question about this just ask :)

2003-05-01 01:49:00 | Go for it I say . I would find it hard going back to 56k now . Another bonus is free access at full speed to Jetstream Games . Now that our phone line is freed up, it's amazing how few phone calls we actually do get however . . . after months of people saying they always got the answerphone cause "you were on that b****y computer" . . . . J . :D

2003-05-01 03:20:00 | Hi Falcon Of course you will want to install ADSL... the speed is much more faster than your 56k modem, I am using jetstart, the speed that i got is around 15Kbps (approx, it just depend wot sites u going), which is very good i think... you are paying a bit more ( or around the same) to telecom if u don't have second line comparing with 2nd line + 56k connection. In terms of the quota that, I am using XTRA, unless I have to download alot, there is no way that u can use all the 5GB that they give you!!! In terms of setup of router/modem, i strongly suggest using Dyanlink series, it is very easy... because you don't need to setup, just plug few of the IP address for each of the computer and you are on your way to the fast internet world...

2003-05-01 07:38:00 | Hi falcon As above, its great. 128 is fine for me. I'm with Paradise 10GB/mth. Didn't go with the cable option because I didn't like paying for modem lease and they axed the 128 option. If you go for ASL, I would suggest using an external ethernet type modem/router not the usb (you can get combo's that are fine). I've had no problems with Dynalink and their support is great (required for operator error ;) If you are a bit doubtfull re setup go for a full install where a tech will come to your place, fit line splitters, setup, etc. If you have more than one comp in the house you can share the same connection and account (this is easier to setup on an external ethernet router IMHO) HTH Murray P
