We are expected to make a professional production/presentation of William Shakespeare from a whole list of topics. I have chosen “William Shakespeare’s Life in Theatre”. However, the difficulties are yet to arrive… I am choosing to go the extra miles, which means to create a full workable website. Thinking of this is giving me a nightmare, as I want the feature from some of the better sites I have seen. These include: a) a moving object on entrance, flash or video/sound… b) a forum which visitors can post messages c) a chatroom which people can talk in As I said, it won’t be used for a long long time, but needs to be good and bold, etc. I need it to work when the teacher goes there for marking. I have had experiences making very very simple sites, so I know how to upload them, but I have no idea otherwise…. I am going to probably use Office XP Frontpage on Orcon server, to create my “masterpiece”…B-) Anyway, if anyone could tell me where to start and how to make the 3 functions stated above work, then I’d really appreciate it, as we really do not have long. I would prefer if the entrance was a flash animation or something similar…. Basically I want the best! Please help with suggestions as to how to go about this… Thank you very much in advance, |

However both programs just use premade images and stuff, so you import your images, add your features, text, etc and then do what you want - so you might want to find some good images. The forum and Chatroom will be your hard part. You will need to use a server which supports Dynamically Created Pages - either PHP, ASP, etc. You can find some free servers around, so if you are willing to setup an ASP page (pretty easy stuff), just go to www.brinkster.com (www.brinkster.com) and get a Free Account, then head off to www.hotscripts.com (http:) and get a free ASP Chat Script... The same can go for the forum... - however, when editing pages, just make sure you edit the HTML and don't touch the ASP otherwise you will run into problems. As for using OfficeXP Frontpage - just be aware that it is a WYSIWYG (What you see is what you get) HTML editor, you cannot make your Chatroom or Forums in there (well you could do the HTML side of things and just paste it over to the ASP Scripts)... I would reccomend going to google and searching for "free website templates" - get an idea of some and then you can start work. Good Luck CyberChuck |

| 140343 | 2003-04-30 11:43:00 | Sounds a great idea sy :) Just don't go too overboard with the presentation and whizz bang effects without ensuring you have done the research into the subject and have enough material to put on the site . I remember at school spending all my time on 'title pages' (no, we didnt have PC's in schools then), and would fall down on actually researching and presenting substantial topic . have fun though :D J . |

| 140344 | 2003-05-01 05:45:00 | Swf.... Flash will take a little while to get your head around..... and will do a whole lot more that you need.... Swish will do 80% of what flash will do... Swish rocks... Chat rooms and forums... These need database driven pages... dynamicly driven.... bit of a mission... specaily with access..... i wouldnt even bother..... you can get little javascripts that will emulate a dynamicly driven page.... fo things like forums.....and guest books.... javascripts.internet.com there are heaps of others... but my memory fails me.... First of all, apologies to stu *talk to you later...* Now, I really, really honestly like the web template in Office Xp Frontpage, therefore, cyberchuck, I do not know what you mean.... I would really like the discussion board to function properly.... like in Frontpage, so far I have www25.brinkster.com but whenever I try post or search it leads me to www25.brinkster.com so... what is this, how can I stop it and make it function properly.... please include details Also, its meant to have the "bubbles" web theme in the background, but does not show up, why? (hence the "bubbles" are not loading) Would you be able to make a whole zip file of your website (all files and everything) then put the zip file up on your website... that means others will be able to see the entire website and change things so it works... Also I can set you up a message board/forum for free & host it for free as well :) |
