140424 2003-05-02 02:57:00 I'd say those are some serious accusations and you'd better take them with a grain of salt until mr Noel Leeming can back it up with evidence.

My friend who works there is a very trustworthy and dependable guy.. and if there were such things going on, he would definately have told me by now, and he's never mentioned anything along those lines at all. Quite the opposite actually, he reckons the guys there are overly anal retentive (then again most of them are intel whores, and intel whores tend to be anal retentive to the most extreme value) ;)

I've never had a problem in my dealings with InHouse, they're a favourite amongst the palmy student community, especially the Massey IT students and their LAN, Tcosy (http://tcosy.inspire.net.nz) and I would personally recommend Inhouse over other retailers in Palmy...

140425 2003-05-02 03:24:00 I just asked my friend and it seems to be the other way around. I do recall him telling me about this back then, but Inhouse wasnt at fault so that's why I didnt remember it when you asked

apparently last year they had a bit of a run in with noel leeming. A customer took their computer into inhouse and it had a dodgy motherboard. It was still under warranty with Noel Leeming/BigByte so inhouse recommended that the customer return it to noel leeming for repair.

Noel Leeming then replaced the motherboard and claimed they had "removed and replaced the capacitors on the motherboard" (There were some swelling caps on the old one apparently.. not uncommon, especially in Abit mobos). Then they charged her for it. She went back to inhouse and complained because they didn't "repair her computer". Inhouse told her that noel leemings claims were a load of bollocks (which is true) and they wouldn't/couldn't have replaced the caps.

I'm not really comfortable saying much more about this (yes it goes a little further), as I dont exactly want my friend to get into any trouble

140426 2003-05-02 06:35:00 Thanks for the advice about retailers.

Im also from Palmy and have been getting advice through both Inhouse and Dynamic solutions who have seemed to be very helpful.

Inhouse however tried to steer me away from AMD.

Dynamic solutions recommnended AMD currently with prices the way that they are. And with Intel bringing new Chipsets 800Mhz FSB etc etc, would make things strange happen through the next couple of weeks, months or what ever?

The other thing was that Intel chipsets don't have the 8x AGP feature, not that I know why this apeals to me, but it sounds good, especially with upgrade V card in future?

Anyway it would seem that Palmy prices are much higher than every where else (prob obviouse) Auckland, Wellington etc cheaper. DS gave explaniation why, infact it would seem that profit margin is less at other places!!

Any how current attractive prices have lead me to:
Starlyte
Magika
QMB....

Starting to get ichy feet, by next week I want my decision to be set, no regrets if you know what I mean, and want the computer by the end of that week or the following...

Cheers and Cheers to everyone!

Yeah.. A couple of their salesmen are serious Intel fans. Basically the CPU is irrelevant, its the motherboard chipset that determines compatibility, stability and performance. Next time you deal with inhouse, make sure you're quite clear that you want an AMD solution.

But by the sounds of it you'll be shopping around anyway... As I recommended earlier, get a pricelist and go into Inhouse and ask them to do you a package deal... They did that for me and I saved a few hundred bucks in the process...

140428 2003-05-03 16:21:00 Hi again everyone. As I already mentioned I have had trouble finding a good case. These are a few that sellers have included in my qoutes, has anyone had any experience with the following cases?

CASE: ATX-508, 350W PSU, side fan and front USB Ports. (I liked the basic design of this one however it seems too cheap, does anyone know if it is any good)

Aspire Turbo Gamer Case, Midi Tower, 350W PSU, Silver, Side Window.

3R system Audio XP 300W or 350W psu, silver.

Thermaltake Highest Xaser II 5000 Plus 360W (Is this one worth the extra$)

Any further advice would be greatly apprecited...

Cheers again!

140429 2003-05-04 01:21:00 you get what you pay for. Have you got any links for the ATX-508?

Personally I'd probably go with the Turbo Gamer Case.. followed by the 3R, then the ATX-508 and then in last the Xaser.

140431 2003-05-04 07:08:00 hmm without a really good look in person, and knowing the brand of PSU (or at least the amp ratings for the rails) I dont think I could give an unbiased rating... I just cant judge from that picture...

however...

www.exileweb.com

is a bit clearer... by the looks of it, its a hyena case... hyena are definately not my first pick of case/psu manufacturer... most enthusiasts (myself included) would strongly recommend you spend your money elsewhere (because hyena psu's have a tendency to implode and take your mobo/cpu with it)

140432 2003-05-04 09:13:00 www.prosource-tech.com PSU just has Prosource sticker on it with the usual input-output info. No hint of Hyena anywhere. Rebadged huh? Murray P (44)
140433 2003-05-04 10:30:00 most likely :( a good way to indicate the quality of a psu is by its weight.. a 300w enermax is a lot heavier than a 300w hyena.. then again if hyena cotton onto this rule of thumb they may start attaching lead weights to the insides of their psus ;) whetu (237)
