140720 2003-05-02 05:13:00 Is it possible for some one to get into my DSL router and change the user name and password. The reason I ask is last night my connection fell over and when I had a look at the settings in my router the user name had been changed to games.xadsl.co.nz or something along those lines, and the password was 3 digits my password is a bit longer than that. So am I being paranoid or could it have happened

PS I have never logged on to XTRA's game sever in my life and no one else in the house would know how to.

140721 2003-05-02 05:23:00 Hi

I wouldn't think it possible to access the router unless remote access was enabled and someone knew this, you'd be very unlucky if someone stumbled onto it via the net. What type of router and what settings? I take it you have changed the routers logon and password + your ISP's password.

Cheers

140722 2003-05-02 05:37:00 If it was not configured properly it is possible.

I remember one time when I happened to stumble across cable modem that when looking at it's webpage already had the username and password in a box when clicking "login" it logged in and appeared as if the settings could be mucked around with.

I notified the company and last time I looked it had been fixed.

140723 2003-05-02 06:25:00 Jimbo,

your router sounds like it has reverted to it's "factory settings".....you may have tweaked it accidentally.

Yo will need to re-enter your jetstream login ID and password and then reboot the router - NOT your PC.

At least, that is how the configuration goes in my D-Link router.

It is a DLink DSL 500
Yes I have changed all the passwords and usernames
Remote access is disabled......... I think.........
Would the default or factory setting be games.xadsl.xtra I am sure this or something similar is what it was changed to

140725 2003-05-02 08:20:00 Jimbo,

yes the factory settings are as you described:

user@jetstreamgames.co.nz

and a randomly numbered 3 digit login password.

It allows you to "verify ADSL line connectivity and conduct speed tests" (if you add : /speed/ to the end of that user name), even if you don't have an active jetetream account (I think?).

Do you have things back in working condition now?
