140626 2003-05-01 13:50:00 Hi

I am just wondering, my computer is a Pentium 4 1.6 using 512MB SD RAM and currently using Windows XP Pro SP1... I have some problem, could you please help???

In some random times, when I open a program, such as Internet explorer or some Microsoft program, this operating system just freeze itself... (keyboard and mouse still working), but when I get inpatient, i press Ctrl-Alt-Del, the machine response back and the program that i wish to open along with the Task manager will immediately start, can i please know what is going on? I have already update all those critical update on windows update.. so is that any hardware problem...??? if not, what should I do???

Thank you very much and any feedback will be much appreciated

140627 2003-05-01 14:10:00 Have you just updated your computer. New Drivers, updates etc can cause stabilty issues. One thing I have all ways been told is that if it ain't broke don't fix it! This woud apply to some windows updates, and any software drivers that are not always necessary..

Anyway thit does not solve your problem.

Unfortunately I am no windows expert, so cannot help you on this, perhaps it isn't a software problem and in that case it could be a hardware problem or both!

When I have problems I just fiddle around a bit untill it works to my liking. But because I'm no expert I often resort to format/reinstall, which all ways works for those sorts of problems...

Anyway that probably didn't help you at all...

Good luck anyway!

140629 2003-05-01 23:23:00 hi again

i just looked at New Zealand hearld today (if u have one), Page 12 on Section C of the newspaper, in that inbox column, they is a person with a similar problem to me, so the computer man actually say the security patch of windows update Q811493 have a big problem that make the computer slow or not responding .

I have actually installed that patch . should i removed that??? but my other computer which is also a Pentium 4 2 . 53, 1GB DDR RAM also running XP (home edition) also have installed this patch, which is running quite smooth . . . . (even using adobe photoshop 6 is running fine) and my computer just running some basic program and have to bear with this problem at random times . . . hmmm, don't know y . . .

and also, raddersnz, wot do u mean by the sentences "Must be the hour"

Thanks again and a reply will be much appreciated

140630 2003-05-01 23:28:00 I think raddersnz has a point :P

Anyway, I've updated WinXP to all the latest drivers, patches, etc and it definitely slows down your PC, I haven't had that much trouble in waiting for an application to load up though, it may have increased by a few seconds which is way longer than the microseconds it took for the program to start.

Also shutdown time has added a few more seconds too.

140632 2003-05-01 23:45:00 Hi jackyht

This Q811493 - Windows XP Security Patch (www.updatexp.com) article has more detailed information on the patch.

I have this patch installed, and I haven't noticed any problems with it. It seems to be the luck of the draw on whether your PC gets the post-patch blues. You may want to uninstall that patch and see whether it helps, the link I gave above gives instructions for this.

140633 2003-05-04 13:06:00 Hi All

Thanks you for your guys replying . . .

hmm, after reading you guys feedback . . some of you guys say it is fine and some say not effect . Well i have a look on the webpage that Jen give, it mention that, it is not a important update at all . So i actually decided to delete it . . .

After deleting those system files, my computer return back to its orginal speed, so fast and normal now . . . so i THINK this system update certainly have effect on some computers la . . .

So, to all of your Windows XP users, so if you suddenly experience dramatic drop on performance speed on your computer and you recently went to the windows update, make sure you have a check on that Q811493 under Add/Remove Program (control panel menu) . If u have installed that, i will recommend that you delete that . . .
