Server (and I guess a workstation version - I'm not sure)... Windows .Net 2003

Longhorn is still in Alpha, so it'll still be a while away... I had heard that it's not due until late 2004 early 2005, but that could be wrong. I think beta isn't due until second half of this year either.

Yeah but what are you going to run on it? How many 64bit programs have you got or can you get?

141251 2003-05-04 06:37:00 The AMD Athlon64/Hammer processor runs 32 and 64 bit software (not emulated) - I assume Windows 64bit will be the same as it is being developed for this processor. HadO (796)
141252 2003-05-04 07:26:00 I think that XP Pro is a very good OS. But if you've already got 2K Pro I don't see the point in going to it unless there is a feature that you need in XP. -=JM=- (16)
141253 2003-05-04 10:57:00 Windows 2003 Server had their launch date on 30 April 2003. I got invited to the seminar they had in auckland but couldnt make it.

Get xp pro if you wish. Miles better than windows win2000pro. (I got sick of the useless looking start button) But if what they say is tru, you can make w2kpro look like xpPro with a theme. Might investigate that a bit further :)

The xpPro works brilliantly for all games, dos included (Wing Commander 2! yea!). win2kpro doesn't I believe.

Think about it this way. Microsoft spent an extra 3 years developing their software to get to XP Pro. If win2kPro doesn't have that extra 3 years development, which is likely to be better?

Heck get a copy of the corporate version floating around the net, and trial it for yourself. Only way your really going to know if it works for you.

Perhaps a better and more legal way to do it would be to contact Microsoft and see if they'll give you a trial CD of XP (they usually work for about a month)... if you like it, buy it. If not then go back to 2k.
