141158 2003-05-03 22:05:00 If you cut and paste a file from your hard drive to an external medium such as a cdr or a floppy, has the file actually "gone" from your hard drive or is it still there waiting to be overwritten (as happens if you had deleted the file)?? dadzka (3499)

Nope, normally only a copy is placed in the clipboard, and to wherever you paste it

cheers,

141160 2003-05-03 22:25:00 Only for CUT and paste does it get moved/removed :-)

Copy makes a copy :-)

141161 2003-05-03 23:03:00 My logic tells me that a file is still there waiting to be overwritten (as happens if you had deleted the file) but it would soon be overwritten if you continue to use the computer.

I take it that you are wanting to recover a file after a cut and paste went wrong? We had a thread yesterday on recovering files and a link to a file recovery program was mentioned. Not sure what thread it was in now but you could try looking for it.
