1336066 2013-04-09 03:30:00 We are getting UFB soon and I thought of putting in some Cat6 cables into the wall mounts. Off the modem/router a cable goes to a network switch. If we have 3 rooms, 2 ports in each, 6 cables goes into the network switch, the 7th cable goes from the modem/router from the TV room. That's it right? They just plug in where possible? Nomad (952)

You can also get a network switch, and daisy-chain the switch to your router.

I have 2 Switches off my modem/router - one in the lounge because so many things have internet connectivity now, and 1 in the office where all the PC's etc are.
You just plug anything in anywhere and it works. You can also plug switches into each other to gain more ports. If you don't have enough ports in a room you can always add another small switch there like I do in my lounge. (TiVo, PS3, Media PC, Receiver, all have ethernet ports)

1336069 2013-04-09 04:01:00 That's what I've done. Got a 24-port 100mbps switch that goes to the router. The other 3 ports in the back of the router are gigabit and are used for high-speed transfers between my wifes PC and the fileserver. She hates when her vidoes take their time to back up...

Means we've got every room in the house patched into that 24-port switch, so as soon as you plug something in, to any wall jack, you get connected :)
