1311406 2012-11-09 17:23:00 Hone Key’s Carbon Tax is working a treat. HERE (www.stuff.co.nz) :D B.M. (505)
1311407 2012-11-09 20:33:00 I always look forward to the weekly editorial in our local paper, (probably because I agree with him most of the time) and this week is no exception. For your enjoyment, although I guess it will offend some. :D

HERE (www.sunlive.co.nz) you go, but you do need to read to the end.

1311410 2012-11-09 22:58:00 The PM just says stuff which most of us real New Zealanders say as well. Its just the media who are not real New Zealanders who have a problem with it. These media people live in Mt Eden in villas, drink expensive coffee in cafes in Ponsonby, drive stupid European cars they do not represent our point of view of homosexuals. prefect (6291)

Yeah, good ol John Key, supporting gay marriage just like all New Zealanders. Wait, what?

And as for those media folk, like the guy who wrote this... wait, what?

:-P

1311412 2012-11-09 23:09:00 More seriously, Prefect, I'm really happy with you saying you agree with the PM on this, and with the editorial B.M. posted. But when you start using "us real New Zealanders" talk and "they" do not represent "our" point of view ... well, that's when I start keeping a close eye on threads. Just saying. You're tarring a lot of folk with a broad brush or three, there. Zara Baxter (16260)

Since when has it been the function of a mod to say they agree or not with a post?

and with the editorial B.M. posted.

And since when has it been the function of a mod to single out the content and agree or not with it?

There's a fine line between moderating and policing. I believe you've overstepped that mark quite a few times in the past few days especially since you've been more active on-line.

And introducing a threatening tone (as in "Just saying") does nothing to maintain any open lines of communication. Rather, it closes them down.

There's also a requirement (I believe) that mods be objective and not subjective. In this response, you are starting to be too subjective. Whether or not you agree with the stated views of a Prefect or a Metla, a mod needs to be much more impartial than you demonstrate. Although there's no excuse for Metla's "get f****", there is no justification for the sometimes inflammatory policing role you seem to have adopted of late.

ok, lets see here prefect, lets see if we can add a bit of "pc" to this :)

The PM just says things that many New Zealanders and I (you, not me) say as well. Its just the media who are not in-touch with some New Zealanders and I (you, not me) who have a problem with that. These media people live in Mt Eden in villas, drink expensive coffee in cafes in Ponsonby, drive stupid European cars they do not represent the point of view some New Zealanders and I (you, not me) have of homosexuals

Close enuf :D

Never . Except as users of the forums, as you are . I wanted to stress that it was not the content of the post that was a problem .

There's a fine line between moderating and policing . I believe you've overstepped that mark quite a few times in the past few days especially since you've been more active on-line .

thanks for your opinion on this .

And introducing a threatening tone (as in "Just saying") does nothing to maintain any open lines of communication . Rather, it closes them down .

I apologise if is seemed threatening . My intent was to point out where conversations can veer into inflammatory and/or unnecessarily provocative speech, and let prefect know that I felt he was getting close to that line, while not crossing it . I think it's unfair of a mod not to point out where they draw lines before they consider an infraction .

There's also a requirement (I believe) that mods be objective and not subjective . In this response, you are starting to be too subjective .

Again, thanks for providing feedback on this . I'll keep it in mind . It's part of why I stated that I have absolutely no beef with whatprefect believes or says, except where it interrupts the pleasant experience of the forums for all .

I'm sorry that you feel that way . My justification is that I am the person with whom the buck stops . I am the person for whom the responsibility for making this forum welcoming to all lies, and I take that very seriously .

I reassess my position on all these things as I hear feedback, and as I undertake a more active role in the forums . My opinions change, and feedback is part of that . But I won't waver on my basic position, which is to make the forums a welcoming place .

Have a great weekend .
