1310987 2012-11-07 06:19:00 I am thinking of down grading to Naked ADSL broadband.

Do you think it is much cheaper ?

Is it worth doing ?

1310988 2012-11-07 06:22:00 Technically I wouldn't view it as "downgrading", but "upgrading".

Have a look:

1310989 2012-11-07 06:41:00 I have naked Broadband with HD-Direct. almost a year now. Download speed averages 14Mbps, upload 1+Mbps. Costs $88(including GST) a month for 30Gb. Never been down for more than 5 minutes. I have 2talk VOIP phone, costs me $6 a month for a local number. Local calls are free & all other calls 7cts a minute. I changed to this from Orcon Genius which was a nightmare! mzee (3324)
1310990 2012-11-07 07:51:00 To me $88 for 30 gig seems a lot. Digby (677)
1310991 2012-11-07 09:54:00 I have compared the prices before out of interest as some people here prefer the POTS.
But I think that nDSL may save around cheaper $20 a mo with the same data cap ...
If you use the phone a bit maybe look for a provider that provides a local NZ ph no. and free local calling (data).

1310992 2012-11-07 12:53:00 At a raw cost to your ISP, Naked DSL costs them $20 a month more than regular DSL. Same for VDSL2 vs Naked VDSL2. Chilling_Silence (9)

I accept your statement, but I thought the point of Naked Broadband was that you did not need a phone connection and therefore it would be cheaper!
(But obviously I was wrong as I suppose Telecom still have to maintain the line)

1310994 2012-11-07 18:40:00 I just switched to telecoms new 150GB + phoneline plan for $109 a month, I've never seen a naked plan that saves enough to be worth the switch compared to the packages with a phone and I have no real need for the phone so I'd do it if there was. dugimodo (138)

Yeah the $20 a month more is for the maintenance of the physical line basically. Otherwise you're paying for a regular phone line ($45-ish) on top of your internet bill?

I don't know Chilling Silence, take my situation for example.

I have regular ADSL with Actrix and this is my package:

60gb of quite fast (never slower than 12mbps) broadband
Phone line with wiring insurance/maintenance
Free local calls and supercheap national and international calls for $95.00 per month.

I also had thought ndsl would save the need for a line rental and therefore free up some cash. Must have misunderstood the concept.
