| 1310616 | 2012-11-05 18:09:00 | Anybody here make any suggestions to our MMP voting system? It made interesting reading at the web site (not sure of the URL or even if it is still there) The most interesting thing, most of the contributors where males (or people with males names) When I wrote to the local area newspaper about Rodney Hides yellow coat, the reply came from a female editor, I suggested she should make a comment to get more woman interested in MMP comments since they wanted the vote about a hundred years ago, and since NZ was the first to do that. But I dont think she took my comments any further, It left me thinking strange things. after all about half the voters are females. One one more interesting comment came from a honorable female MP who gave the logic why the threshold for a party to get in is so high, I think it should be =100%/(number of MP's) But her comments where if a single person got in from a party, then they would not be able to do anything, but if four more list MP's got in then the team might be able to achieve something. |

I would have liked to have seen the threshold reduced to 1%. (That would have been true proportional representation) The only supposed downside to that is that we might a few extra parties in Parliament. But if we did they might only last one term unless they performed wel It will be interesting to see how all the present parties react to the suggestions. |

| 1310625 | 2012-11-06 00:30:00 | How would one just cull the number of MPs for a start? That would be the only good start to NZ politics. Seriously. | rob_on_guitar (4196) | ||
