1311037 2012-11-08 04:51:00 If you think of the Start screen as a full-screen Start menu, there's no major difference.

Pretty much. I've told people that, and there's a bit of a performance boost (It's certainly faster starting up and things) and it also seems a little lighter on the resources. Gaming performance for me has been marginally better too.

So far everybody I've shown it to has initially said "Wow WTF looks so bad :@" but after a couple of minutes they settle down and realize it's actually pretty similar.

A few nice things like the overhauled Task Manager is a welcome change, as well as the copy / paste options and transfer dialog box. For $20 to upgrade for some, and $50 for the rest, I'm suggesting if they can, they do.

1311038 2012-11-08 05:24:00 Its interesting finding all the "little changes" under the bonnet so to speak :)

Windows 8 starts faster due to a new feature - Its called Fast startup.

From the help section
Fast startup is a setting that helps your PC start up faster after shutdown. Windows does this by saving system info to a file upon shutdown. When you start your PC again, Windows uses that system info to resume your PC instead of restarting it.

Notes

The fast startup setting doesn’t apply to Restart. You need to shut down and then start your PC again for fast startup to take effect.

Fast startup is turned on by default in Windows

Its under the power Options.

1311040 2012-11-08 05:42:00 So it would seem in spite of Plods negativity re touching screen , they are indeed making screen for the job.

One might ask, what about touching tablet screen.

1311041 2012-11-08 05:59:00 A touchscreen for desktop use is just idiotic, as pointed out your arms will fall off, not to mention you will rub grease all over the screen.i would suggest using a trackpad for a desktop computer plod (107)
1311042 2012-11-08 06:17:00 I doubt I would have much use for a touch screen on a desktop my arms are too short  gary67 (56)
1311043 2012-11-08 06:57:00 I thought about a small touchscreen, sitting on the desk in a convenient place, with the same resolution as the main screen, with the two cloned... pcuser42 (130)
