| 1311361 | 2012-11-09 19:55:00 | Got the dreaded "Error Code: 0x0000005D" (no NX support P4 Northwood) on the standby comp But runs Win 8 CP but not worth upgrading just for RTM |

| 1311363 | 2012-11-09 20:09:00 | Good decision! Win 8 is an erratic piece of OS ... sometimes, it needs driver for a DVD optical driver, sometimes its needs driver for a simple keyboard, sometimes it needs driver a simple mouse, etc., etc. What a load of rubbish! I'd check out your own hardware before making too many assumptions. I have installed it now on four PC's & three laptops - all different recent models with only one driver problem, (an old out of production Chicony webcam). None of those machines have produced any problems at all and most owners seem very happy with it. Once you start using it for a while even the menus etc seem much more intuitive. Erratic??? - definitely not! |

Win 7 is still the better OS unless you have a touchscreen. |

| 1311365 | 2012-11-09 21:59:00 | As none of my spare PCs at home or at work will allow me to install Win 8 ( the original version installed fine) I have partitioned up my nice new Toshiba C850 laptop at work and installed it there. Most things worked with the native MS Win 8 drivers except for the WiFi. Funny thing is that there are no Win 8 drivers for this PC on Toshiba's website and non of the Win 7 ones work.. First thing I did was installed the latest Classic Start and it goes well and looks good. Also took the opportunity of installed Office 2013. To too keen on that in it's present state.. | paulw (1826) | ||
| 1311366 | 2012-11-10 00:38:00 | I've played around with the release preview and for me I can't think of any good reason to get Windows 8. Except maybe to work better with a touchscreen that I don't have. So no. |

Navigating through Modern UI is great using the tablet. It 'lags' on the tablets screen (that may just be due to being far away from router), but there is no lag on the Windows 8 PC. Now I can have my PC hooked up to the TV and use my tablet to control it with native Windows 8 gestures. Highly recommend if you own an Android tablet or iPad. |

I got the start homepage and couldn't find MS Paint or Calculator ... Maybe power users will prefer the classic windows bar. Maybe the average Joe won't mind it too much nor at the office where apps are locked down anyway. Was a bit frustrating myself if I had to keep the new Start homepage. | Nomad (952) | ||
