1310598 2012-11-05 21:26:00 but good to know we have lost that horrible Englander public school accent some of those guys were using.
I don't know I think it was better than hearing some of the screaching female presenters on TV these days.

1310599 2012-11-05 21:45:00 Excellent vid, but good to know we have lost that horrible Englander public school accent some of those guys were using.

Could have been worse - at least we didn't use RP, or received pronunciation

But we must all accept our heritage and throwbacks, even those of us who affectedly use "Englander", a relic of the 2nd Boer War ...

1310603 2012-11-06 07:44:00 Wanganui Aerowork was Wally Harding's family business. Still going I think. Richmond Harding was the pilot who landed the Spitfire replica "wheel-less" at Wanganui recently.

Yup still going and been renamed Ravensdown Aerowork Ltd. The old red and white scheme will be replaced white and green trim over time.

I learnt to fly there and my aircraft was in old stable near the end of the runway. I have in my will instructions for my ashes to be scattered on the TK runway. But it looks like there maybe no runway!

1310607 2012-11-06 18:34:00 Many years ago I lived down the road from a chap that flew the old DC3 topdresser for James Aviation (I think) out of Hamilton. Anyway, they used to venture into the Bay of Plenty on occasions and this particular Pilot was an ex Japanese POW who hated the Japanese with a purple passion. (Probably with good reason).

So one day he notices a Japanese Fishing Boat within our waters (probably 3 miles in those days) so he buzzes the boat at mast top a couple of times and when he has most of them on deck to see what was going on he let them have a couple of ton of phosphate.

Well a complaint was duly laid and this chap was hauled before the authorities. My understanding is that they understood his anguish and were prepared to let him off with a slap on the wrist provided he promised not to do it again. However, no such promise was forthcoming and the said Pilot went on to become a successful Insurance Salesman. :D

Can you imagine that happening today and the Hoooo Haaa it would cause? :groan:
