1336120 2013-04-09 04:39:00 I bought a new router at Xmas and it came with a copy of Kaspersky with I believe a one year licence.
I've been pretty happy with MSE and don't really have issues but I see the disk sitting there every day and wonder if I should install it.

What do we think, worth the effort or not?

1336121 2013-04-09 04:43:00 Give it a go, why not? play around with it and see how it works, you can always uninstall it again and put MSE back on if you don't like it. Iantech (16386)
1336122 2013-04-09 05:36:00 Could always make yourself a few bucks and hock the license off on TradeMe? :D Chilling_Silence (9)

1336124 2013-04-09 22:08:00 Well I removed MSE and installed kaspersky. First the updates took 20 minutes then failed, then when I went to click on it to restart the update windows bluescreened. After a reboot it all updated ok and I started full scan and tried to launch WoW while it ran.

Dunno how or why but the launcher for WoW was corrupted and wouldnt work until I copied the relevant folder in program data from my dual boot inplace of the corrupted one.

Finally got the scan and WoW both running but the gsme is unplayable while the scan runs - not the case with MSE at all. So I cancelled the scan. So far I'm rather unimpressed with what is supposedly one of the top anti virus products. I may just schdule a full scan overnight because it's dead slow then go back to MSE.

1336125 2013-04-09 22:16:00 Kaspersky AV or Kaspersky some sort of security suite. Completely different products
KAV is a fantastic product, very good detection rates.
The downside of it being so good is that it may slow down the PC, updates take a looong time to download(or they do here)

Try it out, you can allways remove it. the OEM version is dirt cheap so it aint worth much to sell.
Personally, I dont think I'd have it permanently on my PC.

1336126 2013-04-09 22:38:00 You should give NOD32 a try, free 30 day trial... I'd love to hear your experiences compared with Kaspersky, even if you remove it after 30 days. Chilling_Silence (9)
1336127 2013-04-09 22:49:00 It's KAV 2012 and I'll try it for a while but one more problem and it's gone. Maybe I'll take the opportunity to try NOD32 before I go back to MSE but I'm unlikely to end up paying for it.

I seldom have problems with virii or malware and am not too upset if I occasionally end up reinstalling everything from scratch. Also I'm slowly getting my windows 8 dual boot setup with everything so if I kill one version it doesn't even stop me using the PC

1336128 2013-04-10 01:45:00 Dugi, good info, thanks for being the guinea pig lol. I have to say that I bought a copy of KAV a couple of years back for a client that was having security issue and within a week it was causing more problems than it was worth so I dumped it out, by the sounds of it from your initial experience it hasn't changed very much and is still not worth having.
Cheers
