1310786 2012-11-06 22:43:00 Methinks Haier made a big mistake, all the Electronic F&P washing machines we owned have broken down, Gentle Annie, Smart Drive 1 and Smart Drive 2, kaput.

I have fixed the Gentle Annie myself, poor soldering all over the board, very poor shielding from moisture and the new machines also have poor shielding from moisture. The new smart drives I have looked at have failed catastrophically and need a main board replacement, horrible design.

The latest failure on a fairly new Smartdrive machine, according to the failure code, is something to do with water pump failure, I had a spare one from the previous failed one, my daughter's, put it in, no change even though I know the pump is good.

I think some of the failures have been due to mains transients but that's no excuse I want machines which can handle real world traumas not these delicate electronic washing machines.

Washing machines, besides being reliable, need to be solidly constructed and stand up to abuse, modern F&P crap is made lightweight to lower export freight costs. 360's, 380's however were fairly good.

SurferJoe has said elsewhere on site that Americans don't like F&P machines either because they are too flimsy.

Will never buy another F&P Washing Machine or it's derivatives if I can help it.

Different strokes for different folks I guess. Our first electronic drive (Gentle Annie) stood up to massive use for many years and finally died of old age. We replaced it in 2010 with a second-hand Smart Drive which is still performing faultlessly, and Mrs T certainly gives them a thrashing.

Our rather ancient Dual-Drawer Dishwasher (so old that F&P's website doesn't recognise the model number anymore) has worked fine for many years as well, and the sole fault has been a recent leak from a hose in the top drawer which was the only one we ever used. It is not worth repairing the leak so we've moved to the bottom drawer and that is still going fine. The mains transient filtering is very good as well, so much so that I have ratted the filter sections from some dumped machines and use them in industrial situations to kill VSD interference when all other filtering had proved inadequate.

Sometimes you get lucky, sometimes the Gods are against you...........

I empathise with you, but there's little alternative except for overpriced and underperforming stuff from the EU.

1310791 2012-11-07 04:29:00 I'm happy with our smart drive units, seen two in my lifetime, both lasting 10+ years. The Error Guy (14052)
1310792 2012-11-07 07:03:00 We looking a Bosch front loader, cheaper than F&P and better warranty, build quality is up to the usual high standard that you expect from Germany too gary67 (56)
