141404 2003-05-05 00:31:00 Why do you HAVE to change to Cable?

Im not too much of an expert on either, but I know that Cable comes at least at 128Kbps, and has a Fixed IP address, which is good for hosting Websites etc. unless you get a no-ip.com account.. but that's deviating off track.

Both are relatively similar... I dont think that Cable is available in as many places as DSL is though.

I think Cable is slightly more expensive, by a few bucks a month... could be wrong.

What are you using it for? Just browsing? Emails? Or do you plan on hosting a DNS server or the likes ;-)

141406 2003-05-05 00:50:00 Im pretty sure most JetStream Starter ISP's are upping the bandwidth to 256K soon too.

Good point with the pricing, I cant think of anything else sorry.. but Clueless might be able to offer advice, as he also uses Cable :-)

141408 2003-05-05 03:00:00 Are you serious? 256kbs? Sweet! You better be right ^_^. Sorry but we are getting adsl in about 1 - 2 days :P JamesStewart (874)
141409 2003-05-05 03:38:00 I hope you are correct about that chill,
128 sucks :( I use to be on 256(I think) before they change the names (Jet Start too JetStream Starter) & put this cap on(10GB)

141410 2003-05-05 04:14:00 128k whats the point. i hope 256k is coming. i also read that broadband internet is not catching up to world trends of the developed nations. thus they were crticised that price was a factor why many pple stayed wif modem. maybe they can drop the prices too :D

for our usages 256k would be the minimum if i were ever to consider it.

141411 2003-05-05 08:09:00 If you're needing to run a server I'd recommend cable as you're actually allowed to run servers and get a fixed IP. I've also heard reports that it is more reliable than DSL. -=JM=- (16)
141412 2003-05-05 09:11:00 Hi

Cable used to have a 128 option but axed it earlier this year with a resultant price increase for the service, of course. If/when Xtra do the same the price will go up comparatively.

I have the Saturn TV/Sky TV/Telstra line option but chose to not go with the cable bundle and instead opted for the Paradise Jetstart 128K 10GB cap because I didn't like the 256K 5GB capped + $17-/mth on top to lease their modem (compulsory), they do that to manage the settings and connections. So now I have one Testra Saturn line and one Telecom one and the cable within .5m of my home office if I want to change. Still not sure if I did the right thing tho. People I have talked to swear by cable.

Cheers
