141332 2003-05-04 22:16:00 (or anyone else for that matter who has a historical interest in ComputerWorld)

We were clearing out our carport recently, and found two boxes of Computerworld Magazines which had been squirrelled away. There are a whole bunch there, looks like they are all from 1990 - 1993 (New 486 Chip Announced!) and in pretty good nick (the mice didn't get them). Does anyone have any interest in taking these off our hands? I don't really want to throw them out if someone wants them. They will need to be picked up as there is perhaps 50 magazines. Some of them might be pre 1990, but I'm not sure as I haven't looked through them all.

If anyone is interested, let me know (PF1 username at hotmail). First in gets the lot. Or else they will be keeping us warm in the fireplace this winter as we don't have the room.

141333 2003-05-05 06:49:00 Honeylaser -

Thanks very much for the offer - very thoughtful. I've let Anthony Doesburg (CW Editor) and Merlyn Gibson (in our subscriptions department) know, and they will email you if we'd like them. We do keep old back copies here though ... right back to when it first came out (which was black and white only I think). So they may not want/need them. Perhaps other PressF1'ers might like to take a trip back down memory lane though!

We should post a regular once-a-week 10 year old headline or something in PressF1 jsut so we can see how accurate the CW journos were back then in their prognostications! ;-)

Thanks again,

Regards,

141334 2003-05-06 00:11:00 Hi Mark

I'd love to hear if anyone does want them. They should go to a good home! I'll be holding onto them until I find someone who wants them. No point in throwing out such historical items!

141335 2003-05-06 03:13:00 I'd be rather interested. Just not to sure what the shipping to Christchurch would be like? -=JM=- (16)
141336 2003-05-06 04:06:00 Why not reprint some of the advertisements, Mark? Things like an extra $1500 for a 130MB disk instead of a 40MB. Graham L (2)

If I'd been more onto it and posted this thread earlier I could have taken them with me when I was in Chch last week :( I probably could send them in a box I suppose. If they're under 25kg I can send them for $10 on a courier ticket to the south island.

I lie, by the way. I guestimated the number of mags, looks like there are only 28, and they are only 1991 and 1992. Am I guilty of false advertising? ;\

141338 2003-05-06 06:12:00 You went by thickness. :D

I saw an English magazine (PC Shopper) in a bookshop the other day. It was about the thickness of NZ PC World. I remember buying a copy occasionally, when it was over an inch thick. Times change. Magazines disappear. Byte Magazine was another which was regularly over 300 pages. It was very thin before it died (of malnutrition).

141339 2003-05-11 22:59:00 Last chance if anyone wants them, otherwise they will be going on the fire this week! honeylaser (814)
141340 2003-05-28 22:46:00 OK, so I didn't have the heart to burn them. They're still here should anyone want them. honeylaser (814)
141341 2003-05-29 02:16:00 Your local library would be very happy to take them - gave all mine recently to my partner (who is a librarian) and she said the lot were sold off at 20c each within a week. Greg S (201)
